The Middle Earth Festival ScrapBook

The Middle Earth Festival ScrapBook is an archive of the Middle Earth Festival, celebrated annually by the Girls. The Girls are a group of maybe twelve or so obsessives of that work of art 'The Lord of the Rings'. They enjoy the festival for three reasons: they get to watch the characters from 'The Lord of the Rings' perform in a Talent show, they get to swoon en masse and no-one cares...and they have an excuse to get totally busted, and have spontaneous nervous breakdowns. It's all good fun.

The Talent show is what they look forward to. I, as the hostess, have to introduce the characters on stage, line them all up, then get them off stage. Then they have to go through the torment of parading around in swimwear, then evening wear. By then, the Girls and their various hordes of drooling fangirls have worked themselves into a hysteria. But it's not over. The poor characters have to demonstrate a skill, to the hordes of swooning obsessives, and after that they have to take part in a Q&A session with me, where I ask them some questions that have been put forward by the Girls.

Of course, all this wouldn't happen if we didn't have a venue. It's in Mirkwood, in a far corner of Thranduil's realm. He let us have it as a peace offering to the Girls, who wanted to storm his castle when they learnt that that was where Legolas lives. So we got a big forest hall, and built little dressing rooms in the trees above it. The Girls make a point of raiding dressing rooms, much to the chagrin of the occupants of said dressing rooms. Oh well.

So, each year we decorate the hall nicely and the guests arrive. There are lots of tables, each one for a particular set of drooling fangirls. It never works, there's too much table hopping. Oh well.

So, with each Girl bringing virtually hordes of these drooling fangirls, we need food. Kindly supplied by an unknown benefactor, it consists of a lot of sushi, a lot of wine and a lot of cake. The sushi in particular is very popular. Especially with Gollum, who insists on turning up even though he doesn't have any fangirls, bless him. Some more creative drinks are brought along by the Girls, but there you go. Girls party, Girls get busted, life goes on. Most of the time.
